Farsley Community Orchard is offering year-old wood chip mulch made from last year’s xmas tree collection. This mulch is perfect for use on the soil surface as a weed suppressant, to retain moisture within the soil or for natural paths between beds. It’s fantastic for use with all established plants, and we have been using it in the orchard to mulch around the fruit trees and our edible hedge.
General recommendations for mulching are a depth of about 75-100mm. At 100mm depth, a 50 litre bag will mulch an area of about 2m by 2.5 metres, or a path or bed of about 0.8m width by 6m long.
